Getting dental treatment abroad to save thousands of francs is tempting, and it can be an excellent decision. But let’s be honest: entrusting your oral health to a clinic you’ve never seen, in a country you don’t know, is scary. That fear is healthy. Hold on to it.
Cheap dental tourism has caused a lot of damage, and stories of botched procedures are all too real. The good news is that you can almost always tell the reputable clinics from the rest by asking a few simple questions. Here they are. Ask them of any clinic or intermediary— including Sublime Specialist Clinic—and judge them by the clarity of their answers.
1. Who will actually perform my surgery, and what proof is there of that?
A beautiful website has never performed an implant procedure. Ask who will be performing the procedure, what their training is, and what experience they have with cases like yours. A reputable clinic will answer your questions directly and verify the qualifications of its practitioners. If they remain vague, or if they refer to “our team” without ever giving a name or background, that’s a first red flag.
2. What brand of equipment, and what is the written warranty?
Not all implants are created equal. A Swiss-brand implant like Straumann or Aiser is in a completely different league from a generic, no-name implant. And above all, insist on a written warranty. At our clinic, we offer a lifetime warranty on the Swiss implant and a 15-year warranty on the crown. A clinic that offers no warranty is sending you a message—even if it doesn’t say so outright.
3. What happens if I have a problem once I get home?
This is THE question that distinguishes dental tourism from genuine patient care. Many clinics perform your procedure and then forget about you as soon as you walk out the door. Ask specifically how remote follow-up works, who will be available to assist you, and what the plan is in case of a problem. If you don’t get a clear answer here, you’ve got your answer.
4. Is the quote set in advance, or can it go up once we’re there?
The classic low-cost trap: an enticing introductory price, followed by extra charges that pop up once you’re there, after you’ve already paid for your ticket. Insist on a detailed quote provided in advance. You need to know exactly what you’re getting into before booking any flight.
5. Will I speak with the same person, or will I be connected to a different operator each time I call?
Going through a medical procedure abroad and dealing with a different, anonymous representative every time is exhausting. Having someone who knows your case, in your own language, from the very first message until you return home, completely changes the experience. Just ask who your point of contact will be—and for how long.
6. How can I check the clinic’s hygiene standards and professionalism?
You have the right to know what you’re getting into: hygiene standards, medical facilities, and genuine reviews from former patients. A clinic that has nothing to hide will be happy to discuss these matters. Vagueness, on the other hand, is never a good sign.
7. Am I being steered toward what I need, or toward the most expensive option?
Ask the question directly, and watch the reaction. If they immediately push you toward the most invasive and expensive treatment without having evaluated your case, walk away. A true professional’s instinct is to recommend the least invasive solution that works. We never over-treat, even when doing the opposite would be more profitable for us.
And what about Sublime in all this?
We’re not going to ask you to “trust us.” That means nothing, and everyone says it. We’re asking you to do the opposite: ask us these seven questions, and judge us by our answers.
Sublime was created precisely because too many people have been taken advantage of by clinics that open and then disappear. Our job is to provide Swiss coordination, carefully selected practitioners, and written guarantees to protect you from that risk. The rest is just talk.
